Your one & only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite

June 11, 2010

Never underestimate the importance of looking after yourself! I’ve been rather ill for the last few days & it’s all because of my own reckless behaviour.

Having said that, being bed ridden has given me an excuse to catch up on my guilty pleasure, Gossip Girl (S3, that is).

Not sure why I love it so much, since I hate most of the characters. Serena is a major bimbo; Little J is a pointless bitch; Vanessa & Dan are boring; Rufus is (in the words of my good friend Dan) such a Mike Brady; Nate – I could take or leave (he’s too gorgeous to dismiss completely).

But I suppose my favourites more than make up for it:  Blair, Chuck & Dorota.

From left: Miss Blair, Mr. Chuck, God bless Dorota

Since Chuck is a boy & Dorota’s wardrobe doesn’t offer much in the way of variety, today’s style guide is brought to you by Miss Blair:

  1. She’s ultra-feminine. You will rarely see her in trousers
  2. When it comes to dresses, she cinches at the waist or opts for babydoll. Rarely tight & slinky
  3. She loves head accessories – hats & headbands
  4. Laces & florals are key
  5. She loves a good statement coat

Sretsis SS2010

Sretsis SS2010. Need I say more? This collection is totally amazing & totally Blair. The Motherchucker would be all over this. This is just a small selection of pieces; you can view this delicious collection in its entirety at http://www.sretsis.com/

Meanwhile, how exciting is it that Jenny & Vanessa have been written out of S4!? Discuss:

Discuss, discuss, discourage.

I’ve recently become obsessed with Phoenix’s latest album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. I realise I’m quite the laggard as it’s been out for about a year now. And even though I’ve seen them live (twice) since in came out, I never bothered to listen to it until now.

These guys love it too…

Awww… Cute!

You see, I was clinging to the past, trying to be an old school fan. I loved their early stuff so much, I really didn’t want to give their new stuff a chance.

But I digress. What I really mean to say is that this new album is so beautiful & it’s making me nostalgic for the past. A time early in the last decade when I was a mere  corporate  fledgling & French pop music was the soundtrack to my new skyscraper life.

Those were the days… We used to listen to Daft Punk, Air, Sebastien Tellier & Phoenix, I was a small town gal, living it up in the big smoke & I fell in love with the boy on the 13th floor mezzanine.

Back then, my interpretation of corporate style was decidedly preppy. colourful argyle knit vests worn over shirts & jeans, pastel blazers, pleated skirts & lace. It was a little bit Cher Horowitz (but that’s a whole other post in itself)…

My work outfit from 2004

French music kills me. It’s so unashamedly romantic. And that’s what this time in my life reminds me of… There was a childlike innocence to these outfits. Really soft colours, lots of greys & delicate fabrics like velvet & lace.

So I think I’m going to wear this outfit to work tomorrow & thoroughly enjoy walking to the office, listening to Rome by Phoenix on repeat :)
